Goya Music - The Incubator of Broken Beat

For 10 years Goya Music was the centre of the world of broken beat, a hub for producers, DJ's, dancers, singers, record shop owners, artists and musicians. With recording studios as well as a vinyl and CD distribution centre operating out of the old Trojan Records basement at The Saga Centre in Kensal Rise, Goya established itself as an opportunity for creative musical freedom and expression. There's been a recent resurgence in the sound with several new producers citing the era as highly influential including Kode 9 (owner of Hyperdud,) EVM 128 and Yussef Kamaal amongst many others. Mike Slocombe, founder of Goya Music (alongside Spencer Weekes) recently talked to Jake Huyler from Vinyl Factory about the era, the development of the sound and the music.
